Every tiny piece

Oh my god, this video is so beautiful. I don't know how this animation was done, but every little piece of it makes me want to cry.

Hello Kinky

This might be the weirdest video I've seen this month. Hello Kitty cosmetics for MAC--here's the ad campaign:

Latex fetish, eh, Kitty?

These diptychs by photographer Peter Granser are so inspiring and lovely as the summer starts to wane.

fine and dandy

I've become really enamored with bow ties lately, thanks largely to Chuck Bass, my fictional teenage crush.

Chuck walks the line between dandy and douchebag so well. Of course, before there was Chuck Bass, we had the most dapper of all rappers, Andre Benjamin. I once saw Outkast in concert from the third row, and let me tell you, this man is even sexier in person.

Double-oh-seven has long known the charm of formalwear:

One of the keys to pulling off a bow tie is wearing it with some wit and whimsy--as Pee Wee Herman illustrates. I only saw "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" for the first time about three months ago. My parents wouldn't let me watch the movie or "Pee Wee's Playhouse" when I was a kid. Holy crap, that movie is HILARIOUS. I literally laughed through the whole thing. You should go rent it this weekend.

I'm so into the look I want to wear a bow tie myself. I was really excited to see this girl's look on the Sartorialist. I plan on rocking this outfit come autumn with a complementary sneer.

Of course first I've got to learn how to tie one.

hand in hand we'll conquer space

My best friend, Julia, has lived in Portland since January of this year. I miss her so much. She's the kind of person who receives everything new with a completely open heart. It's unsettling, sometimes, how someone could be so without prejudice. Or maybe she does prejudge: she believes, until proven otherwise, that everyone and everything is interesting and awesome. She's a freak of nature, that one. When we're together, we are the silliest, giggliest two girls you ever saw. We are the ones in the restaurant blowing straw wrappers at each other, hopping down the sidewalk like rabbits, conducting entire conversations in fake French accents. In other words, we're completely annoying to everyone around us but completely unaware of anyone else's existence. I saw her a couple of weeks ago, and the fruit of our reunion should be evidence for why we need to hang out all the time:

It started innocently enough. I got a sudden urge to share my new favorite music video of all time with Julia, Sarah Brightman and Hot Gossip's "I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper."

If you haven't seen this piece of disco magic, you are in for a silver lame treat. I actually thought I knew a lot about disco, but I had never heard this song until my friend Becca showed it to us one night. Really, it's so awesome she should have turned off all the lights and dramatically pulled a velvet cloth from the computer to reveal its glory.

After J and I recovered from a fit of giggling, we set about to learn the choreography, which naturally demanded appropriate costumes. Luckily, I had a bag of weird and wonderful metallic unitards that Lauren had loaned me for a performance at the Georgia Aquarium. After that point, it was only a matter of time before a photo shoot had to happen. We went to a nearby abandoned parking lot with my hula hoops, took several hundred photos, and got really, really sweaty.

All in all, a perfect afternoon.
